No Longer Fading Into The Background–Standing Out In Love & Light
I remember it like it was yesterday. The breeder called and said the puppies were born. Having prepaid a deposit, I had first pick. She sent me a picture of a bucket of about 11 puppies. All small, all with black hair. How do I decide? Without having ever met these dogs or examined their temperament…
There was this one, little one. Balled up in the corner. His back paws had a faint white marking and his chest had a mock tuxedo– he was it! He was the one, and I knew it. He was different, stood out even though he was balled up and the runt of the group.
I chose him, not because of who he was but because of who I was. I wanted a puppy that would be a reflection of who I am, or who I was at that time. I was different but blending in.
Lately, I’ve been feeling unable to blend. I’ve been feeling different and unable to turn it off. For every person who celebrates with me, there are 10 who wish I’d fade into the background. “Stop sharing pictures. Stop being a follower of Christ. No one cares about your God, Ana.”
This morning while talking to God I asked Him why I had to be different. I don’t want people to not want to talk to me, not be able to vent to me, not get the invites to hang out. How did I get here?
That’s when the Holy Spirit gave me that memory of choosing Alo, to remind me that I am different (not special)…I am different in purpose. God chose me for that reason. Not for who Ana is but for who God is!
It’s okay not to blend! It’s okay to stand out in love and in light because in love and in light His name is glorified. It’s okay to be different because God uses different in beautiful ways! Stop trying to blend when God SELECTED you because of your differences. He knew you had a heart he could use, a discipline He could grow, a mind open and willing to receive, and a belief that He came, that He rose, and that He will again.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” John 15:16 NIV
Father God, I thank You! You are worthy to be praised, Lord. I thank You for who you are Lord. I thank You for calling me, for choosing me, for trusting me with Your glory Lord. I want to be ALL that You need me to be, Jesus! Not caring who hasn’t chosen me, for You have and that’s all that matters! In Jesus Name, Amen!
